Constructing emotion: Evidence from brain, body, and behavior
Monday September 10, 2018 (3:30 PM - 5:00 PM)

Philosophers, physicians and psychologists have debated the nature of emotion for centuries. I present new evidence from the brain, body, and behavior documenting that people experience emotions and see them in others when they make meaning of body states using contextually- and culturally-relative concepts about emotions. These data have implications for our understanding of the nature of emotions, how emotions change across development and how they impact interpersonal behavior.
